BUILDING CONSTRUCTION I

This module is about the process and development of our country's construction phases, aiming for students to understand the different methods and technologies used, and further enhancing their knowledge towards more practical and efficient designs. My tutor throughout the entirety of the module was Mr Rizal.

PROJECT 1: EXPERIENCING CONSTRUCTION

For the first assignment, our task was to produce an A3 report and analysis of construction elements. In a group of six, we were required to visit a construction site and tabulate its process and elements. The documentation includes photos, sketches, and diagrams. I was put into a group with Ahmad Syafiq, Lim Men Horng, Juergen Christian Martin, Isyraq b Nasir and Akif Nukman. Our construction site was a three-storey bungalow in Bukit Tunku. This project allows students to be more understanding and hands-on with the construction phases.

The construction elements we had to document were:

• Site and Safety

• Preliminaries Work

• Foundation

• Superstructure

• Doors & Windows

• Roof

Even though it was a group assignment, we were also to be assessed individually, and had divided the tasks accordingly. My tasks were Introduction to Site, Foundation, and Summary, as well as compiling and printing the report.

PROJECT 2: CONSTRUCTION DETAIL AND SPECIFICATION

For the second assignment, individually, our task was to find and analyse the construction of a 2-storey or 3-storey residential building in which we needed to identify and propose two construction details for the selected elements of the building. This assignment allows us to develop an understanding of the structural elements in construction and its application in the construction industry.

The house I chose was SS3 House by Seshan Design, and the construction details I proposed were Concrete Staircase and Timber Casement Windows. We had to tabulate all these data into an A2 presentation board, complete with drawings(1 sectional detail, 2 floor plans) of the building, as well as intricate diagrams and construction details of the specified elements(to scale).
